Capt. Chuck Wunder is the Operations Chief for the Green Valley Fire District where he is responsible for all aspects of fire and EMS activities including: suppression activities, training, fleet and facilities, and special operations. His talk will include his comments on "treating the family," the unique and special care considerations required when working in a retirement community.
Also, available before the October meeting will be tickets to the Gaslight Theatre outing scheduled for December 14, 2005. If you do not order your tickets with the September newsletter, be sure to get them early! This function will sell out like it did last year! By request, we will also be selling tickets to the Top Cat Day scheduled for February 4, 2006.
Mr. Tom McNamara, Eyewitness 4 News Anchor at KVOA TV in Tucson, will talk about news sources, and how a TV station manages the news for its viewing area. Due to many requests he has been asked back to speak to the 260 Club. He last spoke to us in 2003.
Dr. Lee Ryan, of the U of A Neuroimaging Center and Coach Joan Bonvicini will share the podium with two very diverse discussions. Coach Bonvicini will discuss the current status of U of A Women's Basketball, and encourage our annual excursions to see the women's team continue their winning streak. Dr. Ryan will discuss new techniques available for predicting Alzheimer's Disease before it happens.
This meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. instead of the regular time of 9:45 a.m.
One hundred eight 260 Club members and spouses will enjoy the annual Christmas show at Tucson's Gaslight Theatre! We have purchased about half of the theatre's seats for this matinee performance of an irreverent look at the holiday season. Busses will leave the Desert Hills Parking Lot at 1:30 p.m. for the 3:00 p.m. show. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase at the theatre. $55.00 per couple includes reserved seats and transportation to and from the show. Tickets will be available at the October and November meetings, and by mail with the form in the September mailer. Members and spouses/guests only. If you want to sit with another couple, please order the tickets at the same time and/or in the same envelope.
Last year's excursion sold out early. We are offering this outing again due to popular demand. Please order your tickets as early as possible. However, as is our policy now, no refunds on tickets, and this year, we are doing couples only. This show got a great review in the Green Valley News on Friday, December 2, 2005.

General Donald Sheppard retired in 1998 after heading the Air National Guard (where he commanded over 110,000 personnel, 1400 aircraft, 88 flying units, and 250 support units. General Sheppard is a military analyst for CNN, a former combat pilot (247 combat missions in Vietnam), and an independent consultant on defense, strategic planning, executive leadership, and, and, and! He has been known to kick butt, and can tell us where to aim the foot! Do not miss this talk! He will walk through his media career with CNN, and give us a look at serious issues in the mid-East war on Terror.
Dr. Yar Petryszyn, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the U of A, without any doubt, gets our vote as our most popular speaker in the last 10 years. He has talked to us about his journey to the North Pole on a Russian Nuclear Icebreaker, the Natural History of East Africa, and most recently, about his visit to the Galapagos. He is back this time to talk about his visit to Antarctica, and, as we already know, will once again run out of time. If you haven't heard him, hold your coffee to one cup because you won't want to miss one word of what he has to say.
We have planned another trip to McKale Center for Women's Basketball to watch the ladies have another go at this year's PAC 10 Championship. The last three trips have been sellout successes, and this one will be the same. Tickets are $50.00 per couple, and are available to 260 Club members and their spouses/guests. The price includes two reserved seats in the center, a reception following the game with light refreshments, and transportation to and from the Desert Hills Parking Lot. Tickets will be available beginning with the October 2005 meeting and continuing through the January 2006 meeting, and, if not sold out, at the February meeting. The busses will leave at 2:30 pm for the 4:00 pm game, and return following the reception back to the Desert Hills Social Center Parking Lot.
